Marjorie McBride

poet + photographer + river guide

In southern Idaho, there’s a blink of a community that was settled by Germans in 1915. When they arrived Red Clover carpeted the land and so it was coined Clover. Today a church and school still operate on the Clover tract.

Marjorie a descendant of one of the original settlers grew up just down the road in the very home her grandfather built. She was cultivated in a home rich with music, especially barbershop to which she attributes much of her gift to write poetry. Still in southern idaho this fifth generation Idahoan is now raising the sixth generation with her husband JJ.

JJ grew up in a neighboring community but met Marji later at the University of Montana. She then followed him to Stanley, Idaho that summer where their love for each other and the river deepened as they worked as rafting guides on the middle fork of the salmon river. On the water Marjorie’s photography career began when she met the renowned Idaho photographer, Steve Bly. Marjorie has now been capturing this great state in words and images for over 20 years.
